mustard yellow

Before I start, I must say it's quite exciting to be posting here. The past twenty four hours have left me in a bit of a euphoria, honestly. I truly feel so privileged to be part of the team here at Fernweh -- it's been such a wonderful experience so far and I can't wait to watch this little magazine unfold in the coming months.

I have this scarf. It's a mustard-y yellow colour that has no doubt faded through the years. It belonged to my grandfather in the nineteen fifties, when he packed up and moved from Germany to Switzerland for a few months, my grandmother in tow. The last time I was at their house, we gathered the cozy basement, where he pulled out his projector, the old slides, and clicked through the memories with us. Young versions of my grandparents on a vespa. The house my Opa stayed in. The ragged silhouette of the Alps. And nestled in  these photographs, I spied that yellow scarf. I'm not wearing it here, but every time I wear something of the same colour, I have to think of my grandfather.

Mustard yellow is my little ray of sunshine amid the drab, lifeless shades of January -- both in hue and memory.

Is there a particular colour you've been loving lately?

xo,
carlotta

  1. That sweater is gorgeous! I've been wearing so much navy blue lately; it's really versatile to pair other colours with. But now I'm desperate for more mustard yellow in my wardrobe.

for me, with yellow already being my favorite color, i am exploring the different shades of which, and i have found mustard to be my favorite, as inspired by you, of course.

    so incredibly lovely, carlotta.

  9. honestly I think mustard yellow has to be it for me too. this year I bought a houndstooth black and white pea coat, and pinned two mustard yellow bows onto it (from emmadime knitted, emmadimeknitted.bigcartel.com).. they're adorable and the splash of color is just what is needed during these somewhat drab months of winter. love this, all of it!
