May rolls around and with it comes a longing for Woodland. Woodland, the little resort on a lake that we've been going to for years -- in fact, my mom has been going up there since she was eight. This will be my seventeenth year. For one week, all my family (parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncle, grandparents) head up to the lake and live simply. We laugh more. We fish and play card games and go swimming and get sunburnt and make good, simple food, and have wars with noodles (we're talking about the floating on the water kind here), and roast s'mores over a campfire under a sky filled with stars. And when June comes, we'll be heading up there. So it's no surprise that this whole month, I've been itching for Woodland. It leaves a happy ache in my heart just thinking about it, and I may have a countdown made.
Do you have any family traditions and vacations that you can't wait for?
Much love.

Wish I could come with you! Sounds like a blast. :) We used to go to CA every year in August, but we stopped that because of the expense a year or two ago. :( I miss my cool, Cali beaches.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures. <3

I always love hearing about when you go to Woodland. I love going away with family. It's always such a special time together and the best moments are late at night went we can just sit together and talk. :) I hope you have a great time when you go. I'm excited for you. :-) my family is trying to plan a trip at the moment. =)
ReplyDeleteAwe, this makes me ache for 'my woodland.'
ReplyDeleteEvery summer since my mom was a little girl, our whole family has gone up to this cottage by the mountains. My Grandpa comes, and all my aunts and uncles and cousins and my parents and siblings. We spend the weekend laughing and eating lots of good food, and swimming and hiking and boating and shopping and getting sunburned and looking for wildlife. Sometimes we sit on the old rickity swings that have been there since my mom was a little girl and we share out secrets. Under the stars, nestled in the mountains seems like a great place to whisper our thoughts, where only the stars will protect our secrets with great care. Ah, you're making me long for that cabin!
Mmm. This makes me miss Lake Isabella painfully.
ReplyDeleteMy extended family owns a cottage on the lake and I went up there every summer until I was thirteen, and a few years afterwards.
Haven't been there in a couple years cause of family politics but I miss it.
Lovely photographs. Have fun!
Sometime this summer my family will make the long trip from Texas to Michigan and visit my sister and her little family in Michigan. We are planning a camping trip in the Upper Peninsula! I can't wait to do all those simple things you talk about and of course take lots and lots of pictures!
ReplyDeleteThose are really beautiful photos. I can see why you're so excited to get back there!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a delightful place! I'm looking forward to the annual camping trip we make with friends. It's just our little close-knit group. We set up our tent by the beach, play games, fish, takes pictures, swim in the ocean, tell stories, and laugh until we cry. It's always unforgettable. :)
