in the dirt

There is something about growing things that appeals to me deeply. Sifting soil through fingers and dropping seeds into ground soft with spring. Tending your plants, weeding them, watering them, and watching them secretly to see if they're sprouting. Being able to eat the fruit of your labor after it's all done is perhaps the best part, because there is no treat better than a meal fresh from the garden, grown with your own hands. I grew up working in my grandpa's garden, when shucking peas into brown cardboard bags and plucking ripe tomatoes off vines grown green was a weekly occurrence in summers sticky with heat, so gardening is in my blood. And while I don't have a green thumb yet, I hope to soon. The days are warm, spring is slipping into summer, and I'm ready to get in the dirt again.

Do you garden?

much love -
Hannah

  2. No green thumb for me, but I helped out with my grandparents garden too! Shucking peas and corn until my fingers were sore and sometimes a different color. The food always tasted the best though! :)

  3. We had a big garden in the States and are slowly building one up here. I've spent a lot of time in the past few weeks out back with a spade. :)

  5. My dad runs a landscaping and gardening business, but I don't have much of a green thumb. I'm hoping to garden more this year though. Your family are definetely serving as inspiration towards that!

  7. Oh yes, gardening is one of my favorites. We have a relatively big garden this year along with some grapes and small trees. It's so exciting to watch everything grow...and photograph it! :)

  8. Gardening is great! (Alliteration, right?) I wish I could find more time to do it... well, not that you've inspired me... I may just go do so. :)

  9. I am not much of a gardening girl, but my family always does big gardens. My brother enjoys planting "Big Max" pumpkins (can you guess what his name is?) and those are always pretty cool =D

  11. I'm so with you! I love growing things! It's so rewarding when you are the one who planted the seeds, watered, and weeded them and then to see the grow. It's an indescribable feeling! :)

  13. Last year my family grew tomatoes; the little cherry ones we grew didn't last long because we'd always eat them right when we picked them, warm from the sun. Delicious. :)
